I came across Clipping late last night whilst strolling through the shady binary back-streets and artificial alleyways of soundcloud. It was dark. I was alone. Cautiously, I clicked play on the intro to “Midcity“… I was immediately assaulted by a wall of raw, visceral distorted noise…

The Clipping cassette announced a few days ago as a part of our Summer 2012 batch is now available to stream on our bandcamp page (and all pre-orders get an immediate digital download of the tape). Clipping, for those new to these parts, is Jonathan Snipes of Captain Ahab on electronics, William Hutson of Rale also on electronics, and rapper Daveed Diggs fronting the band. With their strong roots in modular synth based noise and bay area hiphop, they are creating music unlike anything out there. Masterful, genre shattering, and insanely fun. There is a reason their performance on Enter The Internet won everyone over.

Getback Cypher Part 1:  Me and Rafael Casal repping The Bay.  D-Smoke and Goldie repping Inglewood over J Cole’s “Who Dat” beat.

It’s finally here!!  Sorry for the wait.  It’s been hella busy at Getback headquarters.  But we finally got this done.  Thanks to the whole squad for all of your work.  Nathan Lee and Rafael Casal for the dope shooting and editing.  Rafa, Chinaka Hodge, Chukwudi Hodge, Big Sizz, Mariel, for the cameos.  My actual family: Dountes Diggs, Barbara Needell, Malcolm Diggs for the family portrait section.  Hopefully this is as fun to watch as it was to make.  And keep your eyes open for a  whole boatload of new videos from The Getback very soon

Most folks reading this blog are not ready for this new project of mine yet.  but here’s a sneak preview. CLIPPING

Growing up, I was always comparing myself to the youngest artist I could think of, and what they were doing at my age. “By 19, I want to have a major record out like Outkast” I would say naively to myself at 15, not fully understanding the complexity of such a goal. I knew little about the…
